Skin tags are small flesh-coloured or slightly pigmented brown growths that protrude or hang off the skin. They are very common and may be confused with warts.

Skin tags can vary greatly in size from a few millimetres to a few centimetres. They are often multiple and are most commonly found on the neck, armpits, eyelids, around the groin or under the breasts – wherever skin rubs against skin or clothing and the skin chafes.

Skin tags may appear at any age and increase in number with age. They are more common in people with Diabetes and may develop during pregnancy.

Although skin tags do not usually cause any symptoms unless they are particularly large, occasionally they can bleed or become sore and inflamed, particularly when they catch in clothing or jewellery.

Understandably, many people do not like their appearance on their skin, especially when found on the face or neck. Equally, they make become a nuisance under the breasts or armpits.

Surgery to remove Skin Tags

Skin tags can be easily removed by electrosurgery or excision. – Usually, only the larger ones require excision with stitches.

Skin tags are removed under local anaesthetic using an ultrafine needle.

For smaller skin tags, we will usually remove up to ten for a fixed cost. Fees for removal of additional tags will be heavily discounted if carried out at the same session.

We do not recommend that you attempt to remove large skin tags yourself because they can bleed heavily.
